I would like to write for my essay about how the affordability of state schools such as Rutgers University has changed the acceptance rates. I feel that because of the recession that many families are more likely to send there kids to state universities because they are cheaper. Does that mean acceptance rates will get lower? Does that mean maybe one day the schools such as Princeton will maybe be equal to Rutgers?

Yes, the question of affordability and access is great. You might be interested to know that Rutgers has gotten more selective in the past few years as the overall quality of applicants has gone up. But they are also accepting more students and have plans to expand even more, despite the downturn and despite state funding cuts. I think our discussion of Tad Friend's article will help you think through the topic some, and the first assignment will help also.
